March 2008 Last Friday's FUNdraiser and Awareness Raiser event with Crawlspace Eviction was a wonderful, delightful success. Five members of the Crawlspace troupe entertained about 140 persons with improvisational comedy sketchs that covered a broad range of political topics, from local to international. Some of the people there were familiar faces, but many were not. A wide age range was represented, thanks to the presence of a few college students. Initial reports indicate that the two event sponsors, the DoP and Kalamazoo Nonviolent Opponents to War (KNOW), each netted over $1,000 each in funds raised. Thanks to event organizers Deb Killarney, Lynn Kinch, John Kinch, Steve Senesi and Dan Smith; and to others who helped at the event or in some other capacity: emcee Olga Bonfiglio, Karen Chadwick, Lea Kunze, Elizabeth Hoepker, Bobbi Jo Gamache, John and Lynn Kinch's son and future daughter-in-law Collin and Amy, and probably others. The DoP will use the money raised to further public awarness of the campaign to create a U.S. Department of Peace and Nonviolence by reaching out in new ways to inform and educate people who are not yet familiar with the DoP campaign. We will also continue in our efforts to lobby our U.S. Congrssman to support the Department of Peace and Nonviolence legislation (H.R. 808). If you have not yet contacted Congressman Fred Upton. Please call him and ask him to support that legislation. |
