" "As a local catalyst for a Department of Peace, striving to build a culture of peace through our personal and co-operative action, our mission is to be a community resource for conflict resolution and non-violence. We support the passage of peace related legislation." ( Our Mission Statement) This Sunday KNOW Memorial Event Bronson Park, Downtown Kalamazoo Commemorating Hiroshima and Nagasaki Sponsored by KNOW on the 66th anniversary of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Please join us as we again gather for a moving and unifying event. Family friendly activities are planned. Children can make and launch floating Japanese "Peace Lanterns" Children will be able to hear the story of "Sadako and the Thousand Cranes" and learn how to fold peace cranes "Dances of Universal Peace" for all ages Singers and Drummers Eye witness testimonials from the federal trial of Jean Gump, local 83-year old peace activist, who has been jailed for nonviolent protest of US nuclear weapons. The event is free and open to the public. Peace items will be available for purchase. Help is needed, especially if you are able to help kids fold origami cranes, or would like to help at the floating peace boat table. Suggested donation is $5. Be There for the DoP Annual Yard Sale It is coming. What? Our once a year DoP fundraising event: Date: Saturday, August 27th 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. Location: Front yard of Skyridge Church for the Brethren, 345 S Drake Rd, Kalamazoo MI Here is the scoop: "Our purpose is to provide people with a peaceful event to acquire gently used merchandise at a price they determine is kind to their wallet." Our goal is to have fun doing it. We need your gently used stuff Merchandise Drop Off Dates: Thursday, Aug 25th, 3:30 – 7 p.m. Friday, Aug 26th, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. No TVs or monitors. Anything over 40# or oversized bring Saturday morning. We need you for a couple of hours. Sign up for one or more shifts. Volunteer to setup, sell, or cleanup. Thursday, Aug, 25th, Accept and sort merchandise 3:30 – 7 p.m. Friday, Aug, 26th, Accept and sort merchandise 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug 27th 7 – 8 a.m. - Heavy lifters. Mackinac Bridge Peace Gathering The weekend festival and bridge walk at the Mackinac Bridge on Labor Day will be a capstone event of Moveable Peace, uniting our diverse efforts so that we can send a message of peace and solidarity that will be heard throughout the state.
