Chanting for Cause- A Fundraiser for Japan on Weds. April, 13, 6:30-9:30PM at Sunrise Yoga.

I am asking for donations to be made to Red Cross, with Japan Earthquake on the memo line. We will be chanting three healing chants for Japan, each chant for 45 minutes, with a 15 minute break between the chants(obviously keeping the chant going for 45 minutes with silent individual breaks as needed). There will be on Native American chant, one Sanskrit, and one Korean(which will be led by a Buddhist Priest). I will lead the other two along with Sunrise Yoga's chanting community.

If you could help get the word out to as many people, I would deeply appreciate it. I have received heartbreaking emails from my dear friend that lives in Tokyo, and another through a friend of mine. I want to do what I am able here in Kalamazoo to raise donations for the Red Cross and also offer up healing vibrations through our prayers, chanting.

More details are on the website. www.Sunriseyogakzoo.com For those that wish to join us, bring a meditation cushion, chair, blanket, and/or a donation for Japan. :)

Join our Peace is Sexy gathering on April 12th!!

Skyridge Church of the Brethren will be our gathering place for the April 12th meeting. This is the next step in building a culture of peace following our meaningful meeting last December. It is a potluck. DoP members will be bringing a dish to pass and we invite you to do so. Please bring your own place setting. We will provide coffee, tea and water to drink. It will begin at 5:30 so we can "break bread" together and then have our meeting.

The agenda includes deciding on a collective peace event (possible parade participation), how to better support each other (a community peace agenda??) and how to keep the lines of communication open. Please let us know as soon as possible if you can make it. Join us after the potluck for dessert if you can't make it earlier. You are welcome at any point in the evening.

Come join the Department of Peace and expand our common vision of non-violence. Everything matters.

THE NOBEL LAUREATE PUBLIC ADDRESS:

Friday, April 1st, 7:30 pm; East Ballroom, Bernhard Center, WMU,

Kalamazoo, MI

Peace Jam is honored to host Adolfo Pérez Esquivel, the recipient of the 1980 Nobel Peace Prize, for his efforts working towards true democracy and

human rights in Argentina and throughout Latin America. Because of his

work for human rights, Adolfo Pérez Esquivel became a target of the

Argentinean military dictatorship in the mid-1970's. In 1977, he himself

was "disappeared," imprisoned and tortured by the military government for

14 months. He was released after being named Amnesty International's

Political Prisoner of the Year in 1978, and continues to lead human rights

efforts throughout Latin America and abroad.

There is a $10 suggested donation ($5 for students) at the door. The event

will include a question and answer session, and "Art Hop" experience in

the lobby showcasing paintings by Mr. Esquivel and area students on their

impressions regarding peace and justice. Parking is available at any

metered space in the lots surrounding the Bernhard Center, free of charge.

March meeting minutes and Building a Culture of Peace Newsletter are now posted on the website. Make sure to add your friends to this group! Join us at our next DoP meeting April 14th, Thursday, at 6:30 p.m. at Skyridge Church.
