Comments on the Department of Peace meeting, August 9, 2007

What a great meeting! Lots of energy, lots of activity, lots of decisions.

We discussed three major Departmennt of Peace activities that will occur within the next month:

  1. The appearance of Swami Beyondananda at Kalamazoo College's Dalton Theatre, which we are hosting, on Friday, September 7, at 8:00 pm.
  2. Our Department of Peace Yard Sale at Skyridge Church of the Brethren on Saturday, September 1, from 9:00 to 3:00.
  3. The creation of new t-shirts, which we desire/hope/intend to have available for DoP members and others at both of these events.

Showing that many hands make light work, the 16 people at the meeting folded nearly 300 letters and flyers about these events, stuffed them in envelopes and sealed them for mailing to our DoP members. What a great group of multi-taskers who took care of this physical task while discussing the important topics.

After the meeting, I chuckled while thinking about the three new people who attended their first DoP meeting last Thursday. We discussed, decided and accomplished so much in a very fast, upbeat and positive two hours. And those new people dove right into the deep end with those of us who attend on a more regular basis. Thanks, again, to all who were there.

Please come to the next meeting Augon Thursday, September 13. We intend to celebrate and enjoy the successes of a great Yard Sale and Swami show.

And we'll discuss how the proceeds from these fundraiser events can be best utilized to further promote the Department of Peace message to more people in SW Michigan.

To be involved with the Yard Sale, contact Marilyn Eccles at 269-381-6207 or Karen Chadwick at 269-352-6028.

To get advanced tickets to Swami Beyondananda, call Peg Bozarth at 269-731-4289. Tickets will also be available at the door. $15 for adults, $5 for students, $12 group discount in blocks of ten or more.

Important: by popular decision, future Department of Peace monthly meetings will begin at 6:30.

Lyn Sperry, who took notes at the meeting, will be posting complete minutes at a later time.
